Biography
João Pereira Lynce was born on October 14, 1966, into a family of farmers from the region of Alcácer do Sal.
His passion for the countryside, horses, and horse riding began at a very early age, along with an entrepreneurial spirit that always led him to dream up and implement projects.
He graduated in Animal Production from the Escola Superior Agrária de Santarém (1986–1990), and even during his degree, he kept horses in Santarém on livery, which he would ride and train.
After completing his degree, he decided to take the Equestrian Instructor Course at the Centro Militar de Mafra de Educação Física, Desporto e Equitação (recognized by the International Equestrian Federation) which he completed in July 1991. He started the year with a new project, becoming technical director and rider at Coudelaria Calheiros Ferreira until 2003, when he acquired this stud farm.
From then on, his professional career in horse riding began, with his first jobs being part-time Equestrian Instructor at the Irricampo riding school, a private institution in Santarém, and rider at the stud farm of Manuel Abecassis, in Vale de Figueira, Santarém, in 1992.
In 1993, he was invited by the Escola Profissional de Agricultura de Abrantes, which was launching a course in Equine Management—something that didn’t yet exist in Portugal. He accepted the challenge, and a branch of the school was created in Vila Franca de Xira to develop the course. Thus, between October 1993 and July 1999, João Lynce was the coordinator and instructor of this course, teaching the subjects of Horse Riding and Hippology. During this teaching period, around 40 equestrian professionals were trained, including assistant instructors and riding instructors.
From September 1999 to 2003, he became technical director of Lusitanus S.A. in Golegã, remaining a shareholder to this day. During this time, he also served as a Working Equitation judge and a Traditional Portuguese Riding judge in Portugal, Brazil, and England, and in 2002, was also a technical advisor for the Sorraia Horse Reserve Project in Alpiarça.
Working Equitation is one of the disciplines he most dedicates himself to, achieving noteworthy results. In 2001, he became Vice Champion in the Debutant Class, Bronze Medalist in the Established Class, and Team European Champion (championship held in Spain). In 2002, he won the Bronze Medal in the Established Class and became Team World Champion (championship held in Portugal). In 2003, he earned the Bronze Medal in the Debutant Horse Class, became National Champion in the Master Class, won the Eng. Fernando Sommer D’Andrade Trophy, and was Individual European Champion and Team Bronze Medalist (championship held in France).
João Pereira Lynce became vice-president and founding technical director of the Escola de Equitação Tradicional Portuguesa, continuing his work as a rider, equestrian instructor, and organizer of equestrian shows.
Recognized by the Federação Equestre Portuguesa (FEP) and the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) as an Equestrian Instructor, and by the FEP as an Instructor of Traditional Portuguese Riding, he has, over the last 20 years, been giving riding lessons and organizing equestrian shows both in Portugal and abroad.
João Lynce has been a major ambassador for the Lusitano horse breed in the vast emerging market of China, where for several years he has maintained an organization that promotes and performs major equestrian shows. These shows feature his participation as well as that of other Portuguese, European, and Chinese riders. He even performed in the Forbidden City, in Beijing, for the President of China. This has been a tremendous success in promoting the Lusitano horse and our ancient equestrian culture, consistently selling out venues and drawing audiences of tens of thousands of spectators.
